John Marty, City TreasurerJohn Marty
John Marty is the City of San Bruno's City Treasurer. The City Treasurer is elected for a term of four years. The Treasurer is responsible for the safety and investment for all city funds. This office reconciles fund balances and bank balances and provides monthly reports to the City Manager, City Attorney, Finance Director and City Council.

The City Treasurer's responsibilities include, receipt, custody and management of funds, investment of funds and deposit of funds in accordance with the procedures set forth in Government Code 53630. All deposits of the City must be collateralized and Treasurer must sign all banking contracts.

The Treasurer also performs some of the functions of an internal auditor. In order to ensure the safety of funds and to provide an independent internal checks and balances system, good government accounting procedures dictate that a person outside the Finance Department perform this function. In San Bruno, the City Treasurer performs this duty, which entails reconciling the City bank statements to the account balances provided by the Finance Department. His current term expires in November 2013.
