A smoke detector is ALWAYS recommended and required by code.
Our fire extinguisher is old/been used. Does the Fire Department refill them?

All household hazardous items (batteries, oil, antifreeze, paint, fertilizers, pesticides, thermometers/thermostats, cleaning agents, aerosols, fluorescent light bulbs) need to be disposed through the San Mateo County Household Hazardous Waste Program. An Incident Report is created for every call which the The City of San Bruno Fire Department responds. Requests for Incident and Investigative Reports are made by calling (650) 616-7096 There is a nominal charge.
Who do I call when testing a fire sprinkler systems or fire alarm system?
Before you test a fire sprinkler system or a fire alarm system you must notify Fire Dispatch at (650) 368-1421 to prevent the fire department from responding. Upon the completion of the testing you must call Fire Dispatch to advise the system is back in service.

Before you start your large BBQ fire it is important to call fire disptach at (650) 368-1421. This will help prevent the City of San Bruno Fire Department from responding to your BBQ.
