INTERNET POLICY
The San Bruno Public Library provides public Internet access in keeping with its mission to expand the informational resources of the Library and furnish timely and accurate information. The Internet contains information that can be considered by some to be controversial. Library staff do not monitor the information accessed through the Internet, and cannot be held responsible for its content.
In accordance with City Council policy, the Library Internet connection uses software to filter sexually explicit material. As with other library materials, restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian. Misuse of the Library computers may result in loss of privileges.
The Library currently offers twelve public workstations. Eight of these are located in the adult area and are for the use of people 14 and older. Four are located in the Children's room and are designated for children 13 and under. Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult. The Library also provides wireless access for those with their own computers. Wireless access is unsecured and users are cautioned about sending personal information via this connection. Users are responsible for protecting their wireless device from viruses and other Internet threats through the use of anti virus and personal firewall software. The Library cannot be held responsible for any fraudulent activity that might occur as a result of using the wireless network.
Library staff is willing to help with basic computer use as time permits, but is not able to provide detailed individual instruction. We encourage you to explore on your own.
