On April 25, 1998, Millbrae Motor Officer David Chetcuti responded to a call for help from San Bruno Police Officer Seann Graham ,who was under gun fire from a suspect on Highway 101. Officer Graham had made a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation and became immediately under gun fire from the driver using a rifle. Officer Graham immediately dove behind his police vehicle and radioed for help.
Officer Chetcuti responded to the call for help on his police motorcycle. Officer Chetcuti arrived and was wounded by the suspect. Officer Chetcuti fired back and was able to wound the suspect before collapsing. The suspect then fired several more shots at Officer Chetcuti at close range, mortally wounding him. Officer Chetcuti died at the scene.
The suspect, Marvin Sullivan, was arrested several miles away by the California Highway Patrol and Millbrae Police. The suspect was in possession of several rifles and pipe bombs.
Officer Chetcuti, an 11 year veteran, is the first Millbrae Police Officer to die in the line of duty. Officer David Chetcuti died a "Hero" as he responded to the aid of another officer. He will be remembered in the hearts of all who knew him.
The Members of The San Bruno Police Department are very sad of the loss of "Dave" Chetcuti and will keep his memory , his family and the Millbrae Police Department in our hearts and prayers.
