Police K-9 Unit Police K9 Unit
The San Bruno Police Department's K-9 Unit consists of two police dogs and two handlers. Each K-9 is a German Shepard imported from Germany and professionally trained in all aspects of Police Canine duties. The K-9 Units work out of the Patrol Division. These K-9's are specially trained in locating, controlling and apprehending criminal suspects, crowd control, locating missing or lost persons, narcotics detection and protecting their handler from harm.

Police Canines save literally hundreds of man hours each year searching for criminal suspects and missing persons.

Police Canines, with the use of their special sense of smell, can search the same location for a person in fractions of the time that a Police Officer could. This ability allows a quicker process, freeing Police Officers for more patrol time and community service.

The Police Canines are also a very valuable tool in community relations. The K-9's are often used at schools, parades, "Police Week" and other functions as an Ambassador of the Police Department.

For more information on the Police K-9 Unit, contact Sgt. John Ponzini at (650) 616-7100 or Email at mcampi@sanbruno.ca.gov .
