PROPERTY OWNER'S RESPONSIBILITY FOR WATER & SEWER LINES
There sometimes exists confusion as to where the City's maintenance for water and sewer services end and the property owners begins. This will help you to understand this shared responsibility.

WATER
The City maintains everything up to and including the water meter, therefore, we must have free access. it is illegal to obstruct City access with landscaping, fences, planters, parked vehicles, and the like. It is illegal to enter the City's water meter box for any reason. The property owner must provide a separate shut-off valve between the City meter and the building being serviced. The property owner is responsible for all maintenance within the property.

SEWER
The City maintains everything up to the property line, provided there exists a City approved clean-out at or near the property line, while the property owner is responsible for all maintenance within the property. Property owners should install and/or maintain a City approved sewer clean-out on the property just inside the property line. The City can then provide lateral clean-out service from the property line to the main.

Water and Sewer

The following will help to minimize problems with clogging of your sewer lateral:

1. Avoid using hot water to dissolve grease on cookware. When dissolved grease touches cold pipes, it immediately coagulates and collects on walls of pipes.
2. Don't put eggshells in garbage disposals. Eggshells also collect on pipe walls.
3. Always run water first before loading your garbage disposal.
4. Don't flush diapers, sanitary napkins, and other bulky paper products down the toilet.

REMEMBER ALL OF THE ABOVE. HELP US TO HELP YOU.
