Economic Development

Welcome to the official Economic Development website of the City of San Bruno.

Economic Development Overview

In 2009, the City adopted the General Plan with an Economic Development chapter. This

chapter focused on the provision of resources and incentives for business retention and

expansion, primarily in retail, professional offices, and technology firms, and the revitalization of

sites with industrial and commercial uses.

The City Council adopted two City Strategic Initiatives related to Economic Development in May 2023. The City’s Economic Development program is focused on:

  • Develop an Economic Development initiative around attracting businesses and developers to execute on the Transit Corridor Plan vision; and
  • Develop an Economic Development program focused on small, medium, and large businesses.

In July 2023, staff started at conversation with the City Council at a Study Session about what the Economic Development Program for the City could accomplish at a broad level. The conversation was based on topics such as: Should it focus on creating new jobs, vibrant communities, increasing revenue to the city or facilitating new development? What else should it focus on that will enhance San Bruno’s economy?

Staff will continue this conversation in 2023 and develop new Economic Development programs based on City Council direction.
