Flood Safety Tips:
- Avoid being out during the storm, unless you absolutely need to
- If you're driving and approach a water-covered road, turn around - 6 inches of water can stall a vehicle, and 2 feet can float most cars, trucks, and SUVs
- Stay inside your car if it is trapped in rapidly moving water - get on the roof if water is rising inside the car
- During heavy rain, avoid underpasses, underground parking garages and basements
- Don't walk in water above your ankles; you can be swept off your feet in as little as 6 inches of rushing water
- Do not walk, swim or drive through flood waters
